My dad's uncle used to raise chickens that laid eggs with shells that were pink colored. Anyone know a specific breed that lays pink eggs?
What breed of chicken lays pink eggs?
Hi,
Arancana's lay greenish/blueish eggs. If you get this breed of chicken, you can cross them with a brown egg layer to produce the pinkish coloured eggs.
By crossing with different coloured egg layers, you'll get a "rainbow" of different shades of eggs.
Reply:Are you sure that they were a true pink?
I have hens that are mixed breed . . . white egg layers mixed with a brown egg layer and I often times get what would almost look like a pink egg.
There are different colors of "brown" eggs. I have one hen that lays an egg that almost looks like burnt orange. . . it is really pretty.
Because of the mix of laying hens I also get eggs that almost look verigated. . . very light tan on one end to almost a true tan on the other end.
Aracuna's are called the Easter Chicken because they are known to lay Green and or Blue eggs but these are the only colors I have knowledge of them laying.
If there is a hen that truly lays a pink egg I would have to guess that it is a "foreign" breed of chicken that is bought generally by Chicken Show People. . . people that have a hobby of showing chickens as some people have a hobby of showing dogs.
Reply:Arancana's lay green %26amp; blue eggs--never heard of pink ones.
