When is pink eye contagous and when would symptoms show up to someone who was exposed?

My son was playing at his friends house. later that day their mom called to say their son has pink eye. If my son caught the infection, when would it show up? Is it safe to send him to preschool tomorrow if he has no symptoms present? Can you catch pink eye before the infected person has any signs or symptoms?

pink eye is contagious when the eye is pink and has drainage. It is spread a lot of times when kids wipe their eyes and transfer it to another child through contact. If a child with pink eye wipes drainage from their eye and touches your child's hand, he could catch it if he rubs his eye also. Pink eye is common in children. Hand washing is probably the single most act of preventing things like this as well as other things
Reply:It would probably show up within 1-5 days. If your son has no symptoms he can be in school. Pink eye is usually accompanied by green or yellow goop in the eye. A person can have red eyes that is not pink eye. Allergies cause red and watery eye and is not contagious.
