What's the fastest way to sell a car without a pink slip?

I'm trying to sell a car to a friend of mine, but I can't find the pink slip. I was told I can't transfer the title without the actual pink slip. My friend needs the car as soon as possible. Is there a way to transfer the title without waiting to receive the duplicate?

Notarize a bill of sale stating the transfer of the title will be complete and recorded when the duplicate arrives.

Some risk for the buyer, but it's his call.

Also some risk to you if he wrecks it; you could still end up in court if something happens before the title arrives
Reply:The DMV can get you a copy of the pink slip.

Perhaps if you both go down to the DMV with a Bill of Sale, they can handle the paperwork right then and there for you.
Reply:Your friend may be able to drive the car and insure it under a bill of sale, but until the title transfer goes through DMV, you will be responsible to see that the plates are current and that there is in fact insuance coverage on the vehicle.
