Any decorating suggestions for bathroom with pink tile?

I am renting a house and the bathroom has 70's pink tile. Looking for wall paint color and other suggestions to help minimize the impact of all that "Pepto" pink. Thanks!

Any decorating suggestions for bathroom with pink tile?
Sure....

Firstly, you dont want to appear as though you are trying too hard to cover it up, you want to embrace it.

Natural look.....

pink to me looks dated and sort of fake so.....

bring in natural elements that are medium brown and dark green to tone down the pink. Green plants in big baskets are always make a big statement to catch the eye..and are a nice touch to bring down pink.

Use matching medium brown baskets to put towels and washclothes in. Either on the floor or mounted on the wall with screws.

Cover as much of the floor with a rug that has a little bit of pink in it but mostly browns and greens

Do the same with pictures that you hang on the walls.....(dont ignore the pink aspect as it will be obvious that you are trying to 'cover it up' instead of embracing it.)

Shower curtain should be a solid color of your choice, with very thin pink tie backs .....to tie the room together.

~OR~

if your are into the more cartoonie type bathroom....you have kids....or just like to be more playful instead of classic

They have rubber duckie matching accessories that would look great against the pink. The colors consist of light blue, bright yellow, and some orange.

You may even find some matching accessories that have a tiny bit of pink with some other colors that would balance out the room.

Good luck!!!

Reply:No wall color will make the tile look better, instead I would suggest painting the tile not the walls. I would suggest Top Secret Coatings TS-100 coatings. It comes in over 200 colors, all that look beautiful. You will be a lot happier if you don't have to minimize the pink but instead make it a master piece of beauty.
Reply:I would go for a chocolate brown... it may sound a bit dark..but try it I bet it looks great with pink tiles.
Reply:Light miami seafoam green.........

..
Reply:Actually, that pink tile is most likely 50's (70's was Avocado Green!)

Look for a 50's style and motif and it will work fine.........
Reply:You could do a girlie retro pinup theme - think 1940-1950. That was the time frame in which pink tile was fashionable, so just go with it.
Reply:Do yourself a favor, if you're going to be there a while, talk to your landlord about having the tile sprayed with a porcelain finish. It makes the tile last MUCH longer, and coats the grout so there's no breakage or mildew buildup areas.
Reply:Pink, Pink and then more Pink!....I am thinking that in order to make the room a bit better, you should add a dark colour so that tis not too feminine. Try adding a dark Hunter Green on a wall and use shades of sage green as well. I would suggest a floral decal stick-on for the tiles. You can get them at Walmart in the craft section or any hardware store. Use the pink to your advantage. Think Floral. Think bright!.....make sure to have some white in there too.
Reply:I have a green and pink bathroom that looks pretty good. I have a flamingo shower curtain.
Reply:I would probably try to go for a darker green color and blue....White or yellow would make the bathroom very feminine (unless that is something that would work for you). I would go for something darker, that doesn't clash with the pink and maybe has some kind of pattern, that way your eyes would by drawn to the pattern on the towels/shower curtain as opposed to the pink on the floor. Good luck, have fun decorating!
Reply:Use white and black accents.
Reply:A bathroom can be very pretty even with pink tile. Just "go with it" and find a theme and a color scheme you like that incorporates that color. For example, do a shell beach theme with pinks, blues, whites, beiges, and aquas - using a wallpaper border or fabric (curtains and shower curtain) with those colors.

Or you could do a retro look with black, white, and pink, or even a tropical theme using bright blues, greens, and hot pinks. The key really is to find something you like (fabric, border, accessories) that has some of the pink color in it. Then the pink has a "reason" for being there and fits into the look. Another approach is to go with whites or neutrals for walls and floors, then pick up the pink in pictures, accent towels, accessories, valances, etc. You might, for example, do tone-on-tone ivory and beige walls and use pink in a few accessories with beige and pink towels. If you just can't stand it another day then you can always do a bit of research and learn How to Paint Over Ceramic Tile.
Reply:Pink and Black,

My girlfriend did this cool pink and black Asian themed bathroom at our old apartment.

It was a lighter pink, not like flamingo or anything.
Reply:bath at night
Reply:mint green and yellow. walls

dark pink shower curtain

and upper colors in mix and match towels.
Reply:you're gonna have to go with.

i would make it look on purpose.

white with girly accessories

OR

tan,

beige-sand color

with brown accessories
Reply:mint green sounds weird but its uplifting. If you just want to neutralize the color then choose vanilla
Reply:Try a muted tone, like Sherwin Williams' "gray area" or "panda white" if you're looking for something brighter.

I would steer clear of blues, greens and yellows because those shades will highlight the pink, rather than camouflage it.
Reply:best way with out taring it out is to play off it: example add a black little rug turn it into a 50s theam guys dig it...
Reply:at home depot they have some real pink marble

like $2 a sq ft
Reply:My parents house was built in the 50s. They are very serious about maintaining its integrity -- including the pink tile in one bathroom and the mint green in one of the others.

Their pink tiled bathroom has tan walls with a slightly pink cast. Having a bit of pink in the wall color makes less contrast between the wall and the tile and actually makes the tile look a bit more subdued. They painted the vanity chocolate brown and added brown and pink towels. All of the metal in the room is brushed pewter. They get compliments on the room all the time. It looks really nice.

If you opt to use chocolate brown, choose one that leans more toward red or purple than toward green. It's a subtle difference, but, again, it will subdue the pink in the tile.

They found a striped rug that includes tans, pinks, brown, and even some brick red. They've actually opted to use some of that red in accessories -- a painting and a vase.

Anyway, it looks really nice.
