How can you make pink hair professional?

I don't mean all over colour, because I'm just dying the tips of my hair pink or pink under my layers(which one should I choose?). But my family on my dad's side is very old-fashioned, like they freaked out when my brother got a stud in his ear. I'm getting my hair done tomorrow, but I'm going to a family reunion type thing a couple days from now, and I'm terrified to see what they'll think or say to me about the pink. So I was just wondering if there were any tips that could make it look more professional?

How can you make pink hair professional?
Well if you did only the tips of the hair that would be easier to hide. All you'd have to do is fold your hair in half inwards. Meaning, hold your hair in a ponytail at the base of your neck and then fold the ponytail so that the ends of your hair are tucked underneath near the base of your neck. Tie it up there with a cute band or clip and your set. It looks neat and professional and the pink is hidden. Good luck :)
Reply:hi, i'd say dye under your layers as that way not much will show normally but if you wear your hair up or with a clip etc you can show as much of the pink areas as you want - great for a 'normal' look for work etc and a more daring look for evenings or night out. When I first went pink I opted for the layers underneath also and told my family that it was vegetable dye so it could be rinsed out quickly if I wanted and that seemed to make them feel better when they knew I would not be stuck with pink hair in 6 months time and hating it (or so they thought - 3 years on am experimenting more lol).

YOu can see 100's of dye results on the following page: http://www.beeunique.co.uk/pinkpage1.htm

Which may give you some ideas on styles/shades and also show how pink does not always mean punk or in-your-face colour etc and can look really nice. I have lost count of how many 'normal' people have commented on how good my hair looks - good luck and go for it - if you dont it will be on your list of things you wish you'd tried :)
Reply:i would do tips. than during the reunion put your hair up in a bun or french twist so it hides the pink. it's pretty hard to make pink look professional...or any other odd color
Reply:yah, avril lavignes hair looks really pretty. look at hers!

All she does it blends in the layers, also.. if you really care what they think.. just pull your hair up to hide them or say that they arent permanent and for them to mind their own business.
Reply:Lara from High Fidelity rocked it pretty well without it looking extreme- I think pink under your layers is more subtle and also probably looks better. That way, you can always tie it up in a ponytail so it's much less noticeable.

Also, I know there was a trend a while back that was pink hair for breast cancer support- you could say it's for that!
Reply:Well you can't really make it look more proffesional

My mother did my boyfriends tips, she used some foils and a paintbrush with bleach :P
Reply:you cant.
Reply:say tha they aren't perinet and that its going to wash of in a few days
Reply:Yeah the girl above said how avril has it. It looks really good and as long as you don't dress trashy or represent yourself trashy than you should be fine. I prefer the under layers like these

her hair isn't pink but the streak is blonde and she has it fade in and it looks pretty cool and she doesn't look bad at all.
